GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF MACHINE

HS-OBM-2 is a high speed outer box making machine working with pre-cut and pre-scored pieces of cardboard called skillets. In operation, this machine feeds pre-cut and pre-scored skillets as shown in Fig.1 from a hopper and passes them along a bar or mandrel, around which they are progressively folded to generate the completed outer box.

The machine is fed with cardboard from a reel. The cardboard web runs over a guide roller up to the creasing rollers, where the cardboard is creased. The cardboard web is transferred via a bridge to the so-called lower pivoted arm, to which the die element is fixed. Here the punching takes place as per the box size and corresponding skillet layout

After Punching the cardboard blanks are cutoff by means of knives fitted to the upper and lower pivoted arm respectively. Immediately after the knife has cut off the cardboard blank, the blank is transferred by a transport chain to the form wheel. When the blank is transferred, the flaps A are folded 90° (Fig. 1)

The blank is pressed down into the form wheel by V-shaped pressers fitted on to a wheel, whereupon the flaps B are folded 90°. After this, the glue is applied on the flaps C and D. When the blank is moved further round in the form wheel the flaps C and D meet the folding rails which fold the flaps C 90° and then flap D 90° further in relation to C. The final folding operation takes place when the blank is transferred from the form wheel to the cup chain, when the flaps D will be folded 180° in relation to C.

The cup chain takes the box from the form wheel to the discharge. During this transport, the ends of the box are heavily pressed first by the two rings on the chain wheel and later by rollers placed on both sides of the cup chain causing the glue joints to stick. The box has now got its final shape (Fig 2).

Glue is applied on the flaps C and D by two glue application wheels. The glue is picked up from the glue pot by means of a roller. The thickness of the glue layer on this roller can be adjusted by a scrapper. The cup chain passes a sweeping-off rail at the discharge wheel. This rail has such a shape that the box is forced off the cup
